In this exciting jazz double bill presented by DACAMERA, enjoy two extraordinary sets under the Houston sky: a celebrated Houston native bringing passionate new life to a unique, historically-significant sound pioneered by Texas musicians, and an electrifying New York-based trio pushing the boundaries of what jazz can be
Houston native and Kinder HSPVA graduate, saxophonist Jason Hainsworth pays tribute to the Texas Tenors, raw, hard–blowing saxophonists from the Lone Star state who pioneered a robust fusion of swing, bebop, R&B and blues. “As is evident from this fine recording, his heart belongs to Houston,” says DownBeat.
Closing out the night is New Jazz Underground, a New York-based trio of saxophonist Abdias Armenteros, bassist Sebastian Rios and drummer TJ Reddick. They are known for their captivating performances and viral videos showcasing their chemistry, musicality, and raw ambition, merging traditional jazz sensibilities with the modern influence of swing, hip-hop, house/afro-beats, and Afro-Cuban music. DownBeat praises their “foundation of solid groove, enabled by a remarkable synergy between the players.”
DACAMERA’s mission is to inspire individuals and enrich communities through diverse and inventive musical experiences. We value connection, exploration and excellence. DACAMERA programs create connections among musical genres, art forms and ideas; between people and places; between the past and the present.
