Rooted in the timeless spirit of New Orleans -the birthplace of jazz -The NOLA Resistance Quintet carries forward the legacy of icons like Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and Sidney Bechet, while pushing their sound into bold, modern directions.
Each member is a seasoned veteran, having performed with legends including Dianne Reeves, Dr. John, The Neville Brothers, Allen Toussaint, Fats Domino, Bonnie Raitt, The Grateful Dead, Maceo Parker, The Brand New Heavies, Wynton & Branford Marsalis, and The B.B. King Blues Band.
The evening will also feature masterworks by acclaimed Texas Visual Artist John Alexander.
John Alexander is Beaumont native whose work is in major museum collections from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston distinguished public and private collections worldwide.
Mr. Alexander is all Zen, all Chops and all Soul. His paintings draw you in to the mystical primordial wonderland that is Southeast Texas. Then as a jazz soloist does, he delves even deeper still into its essence of the place. He takes us on a journey that visually explores new harmonic and melodic ideas that help us connect to our humanity.
In the Spirit of Jazz, The Houston Jazz Collective’s mission is to enrich, entertain and expand the community for Jazz through Performance, Education and Advocacy.
