River Oaks Chamber Orchestra: Season 14 Opening Concert

ROCO opens the 14th season with guest conductor, Paul Watkins, and a World Premiere commission by Canadian composer, Maxime Goulet. Goulet’s work ranges from symphonic music to video games, with his unique piece for ROCO being inspired by the game of Chess. The piece is composed as if there is a chess game between an orchestra and a pianist, as a chess game plays out on screens. The evening promises other musical delights by an orchestra of extraordinary musicians deeply committed to each other and to shaping the future of classical music.

The River Oaks Chamber Orchestra (ROCO) is a forty-piece professional chamber orchestra that was founded in 2005 by Alecia Lawyer. A Juilliard-trained musician with an eclectic background as a performer, recording artist, adjunct professor and radio host, Ms. Lawyer had a vision to reimagine the orchestral experience for both audience and musicians. The result is ROCO: an orchestra of all-star musicians, distinguished conductors and contemporary composers who come together from all over the world to present unexpected classics, original compositions and delightful performances that dissolve the barriers between audience and orchestra.

This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30 AM-1:00 PM. If tickets remain at 1:00 PM, the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. As always, open seating on the hill. The shows goes on rain or shine.
