Miller Theatre Advisory Board – Box Office Assistant
Seasonal, Part-time/Non-exempt
Average 16-20 hours a week, additional hours as needed.
$17/hour.
Reports to Audience Services Manager.
Summary
Miller Theatre Advisory Board (MTAB) is the 501c3 organization that oversees all programming at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park. For the last 100 years, Miller Outdoor Theatre has provided professional-caliber performances, free to the public for the cultural enrichment of Houston’s diverse communities and the visitors to this great city. Miller Outdoor Theatre features performances from local arts organizations and from national and international touring acts. Performances at Miller Outdoor are presented March through November.
Miller Theatre Advisory Board is looking for seasonal, part-time Box Office Assistants to support the Audience Services Manager in administrative and ticketing duties. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, highly organized, adept at managing multiple tasks, with excellent customer service skills. This position would be suited to a candidate looking for supplemental work and/or those interested in events and performing arts.
The Box Office is open to the public by phone and online the day before performances from 10:00am- 3pm and from 2 hours before the performances until 30 minutes past the show’s end on days with performances. There are evening performances 2-3 days a week and 2-3 matinees on some weeks. Some holidays will be required. Hours shift weekly depending on the performance schedule. Job Duties
Administrative
- Answer phones and weekend voicemail
- Take group and special services orders
- Assist Audience Services Manager on other box office tasks including, but not limited to, checking box office inventory, setting-up ticket scanners, communicating with other MTAB team members, etc.
Box Office
- Staffing box office window as needed.
- Assist Audience Services Manager on show days with ticket processing, orders, and distribution.
- Assisting Audience Services Manager in coordinating school crowds during matinees.
Qualifications
- Great Customer Service skills – ability to engage with audience members and assist in meeting their needs.
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office 365
- General computer and typing skills
- Ability to learn new software, such Miller Outdoor’s ticketing system Purple Pass.
- Comfortable working with deadlines and works well under pressure.
- Experience with events and/or customer service preferred.
- A passion for entertainment and performing arts a plus.
