Houston Grand Opera Presents:
The Barber of Seville in Texas
A Virtual Performance

This is a virtual performance only! You can choose to watch it here on this page, our YouTube Channel here, or Facebook here!  The stream will be available until October 11.

The Barber of Seville in Texas is an adaptation of Gioachino Rossini’s classic work by Kristine McIntyre. The star-crossed lovers in this version now have a language barrier to overcome, as the wily barber Figaro must translate for Almaviva, who only speaks English, and Rosina, who only speaks Spanish.

The setting and cowboy-themed costumes move the story from Italy to West Texas.

This bilingual opera weaves Texas history into the story, making it particularly relevant to the diverse audiences of Houston students.

The Barber of Seville in Texas will draw new audiences by virtue of its bilingual celebration of our community’s Hispanic roots.

All performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre are funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance
