AFA Summer Music Festival Orchestra

AFA is Houston’s largest non-profit provider of music education programs for young people. In 2017-2018, AFA served more than, 3,489 young musicians from 215 schools in more than 50,000 classroom hours of educational programming. AFA’s flagship program, the Summer Music Festival, will celebrate 25 years in 2020 and enrolls over 500 third through twelfth grade instrumentalists, vocalists, and composers in intensive sessions ranging from two to five weeks long.

Recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, AFA programs make musical accomplishment a vehicle for the kind of personal, intellectual, social, and artistic growth that is the foundation for a young person’s success.

Join more than 100 outstanding Houston area high school musicians who make up the AFA Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor and AFA alum Dr. Michelle Perrin Blair (Coe College, PREMIER Chamber Orchestra) in an exciting performance of orchestral works including Respighi’s Pines of Rome and an AFA-commissioned arranged of Beacon Fires by Houston composer Rob Smith.

This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30 AM-1:00 PM. If tickets remain at 1:00 PM, the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. As always, open seating on the hill. The shows goes on rain or shine.
