The Institute of Hispanic Culture of Houston (IHCH) is excited to announce, Latin America in The Americas, a vibrant celebration of Latin American culture timed with the “Día de la Hispanidad.”

This captivating event, produced by DANMAR Academy of Performing Arts, showcases a rich tapestry of traditions through dance, music, and audiovisual presentations, aligning with IHCH’s dedication to preserving and disseminating Hispanic culture in Houston.

The event features artistic direction by award-winning choreographer Maria Fernanda Urbaez and musical direction by Grammy Award-winner Eddy Marcano. It includes performances from both internationally recognized and local award-nominated artists, carefully selected to highlight emerging talents aged 13 and older.

Structured into four segments, the program explores distinct regions of Latin America, each segment dedicated to celebrating and fostering appreciation for the diversity within these areas.

The “South America” segment delves into the continent’s contrasts and biodiversity, with choreographies inspired by nations like Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela, among others. These performances bring to life each country’s rhythmic and cultural uniqueness.

Moving into “Central America,” the focus shifts to the area’s lush landscapes and indigenous cultures with spirited representations from countries such as Panama, Costa Rica, and El Salvador, highlighting the rich heritage and resilience of these communities.

The “North America ” segment shines a spotlight on Mexico, presenting its history and cultural fusion through traditional dances that connect past and contemporary traditions.

The journey concludes with the “Latin Islands of the Caribbean,” where the festivities of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic are brought to life, celebrating their renowned music and artistic flair.

Latin America in The Americas is more than just a showcase; it is an immersive experience into the beauty and complexity of Latin American cultures. This event also supports the IHCH’s educational initiatives by contributing to merit-based scholarships for Hispanic students, awarded during the annual Gala, Viva de Gala.

Since its inception in 1965 by a group of passionate professionals, IHCH has been pivotal in promoting Hispanic culture through collaborations with local universities, the Texas Commission of the Arts, and the Houston Arts Alliance. “Latin America in The Americas” underscores this mission, offering a platform for cultural expression and education.

Join us to experience the rhythm, color, and passion of Latin America and help promote the understanding and appreciation of the diverse Hispanic cultures.

The main priorities of IHCH are to support inclusiveness, education, promotion and understanding of Hispanic values and culture, as such, the Institute’s committees organize activities and events to support our Mission. As part of the Institute Commitment to further the development and growth of Hispanic students in Houston, IHCH awards merit-based scholarships to high school and college students during our annual Gala, Noche de las Americas.
