Puccini’s beloved masterpiece, with its soaring score and unforgettable tragic story, returns to the stage in a revival of Tony Award-winning director Michael Grandage’s acclaimed production.
A timeless tale of love, betrayal, and cultural conflict, Puccini’s breathtaking opera tells the story of Cio-Cio-San, a young Japanese woman called Butterfly who enters an arranged marriage with the American naval lieutenant Pinkerton. Pinkerton abandons Butterfly, leaving her to rear their son alone. When Pinkerton reappears years later with his new wife seeking to take his child back to America, heartbreaking tragedy ensues.
Featuring a stellar cast led by soprano Raquel González and tenor Eric Taylor and the full forces of the HGO Chorus and Orchestra, Madame Butterfly is an unforgettable night of grand opera for audiences of all ages.
Houston Grand Opera’s mission is to enrich Houston’s diverse community through the art of opera by creating, curating, exploring, and producing outstanding experiences centered around the human voice.
