Join us for an unforgettable evening of musical exploration, featuring the brilliance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, performed by the gifted Dr. Mann-Wen Lo, followed by Rimsky-Korsakov’s enchanting Scheherazade. This concert promises to be an inspiring journey through two of classical music’s most expressive and captivating works, showcasing both technical virtuosity and vivid storytelling.
The first half of the performance will feature Dr. Mann-Wen Lo performing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, one of the most beloved works in the violin repertoire. This concerto is known for its lyrical beauty, dynamic range, and technical brilliance. Dr. Lo will bring this masterpiece to life, captivating the audience with her expressive artistry. The concerto’s blend of lyrical themes and dramatic intensity creates a perfect opening for an evening full of emotional depth and musical richness.
The second half of the concert will transport the audience to the mythical and magical world of Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Inspired by the legendary stories of One Thousand and One Nights, this symphonic suite tells the tale of the Sultan Sharyar and his evolving relationship with the storyteller, Scheherazade. The music masterfully evokes the Arabian landscapes, mystical stories, and the thrilling drama of the narrative. Rimsky-Korsakov’s lush orchestration, combined with his vivid musical imagination, will take listeners on a journey filled with adventure, romance, and suspense.
The evening will feature an exceptional blend of virtuosity and passion, as these two remarkable works unfold on stage. From the tender intimacy of Mendelssohn’s violin concerto to the sweeping, exotic melodies of Scheherazade, this concert is an exploration of music’s power to tell stories and evoke emotions. The Texas Medical Center Orchestra has a fivefold mission: 1) To perform affordable public concerts with diverse programming at accessible locations; 2) To bring public attention to medically related charities through our programming; 3) To provide educational outreach programs for students in underserved populations; 4)To provide chamber concerts to hospital patients and their families; and 5)To offer a musical outlet for musicians in the healthcare professions.

This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) from our website one day prior to the performance starting at 10:00 AM through noon the day of the show, or until tickets run out. We always reserve plenty of tickets available for in-person pick up at the box office, which opens an hour before the show starts. As always, open seating on the hill. Our shows go on rain or shine!
