Your Favorite Soundtrack Is Back! Community Music Center of Houston presents The Philly Soul Sound Vol. 5 – A Tribute to Frankie Beverly and More! This year, we pay homage to one of Philadelphia’s own, the legendary Frankie Beverly, whose smooth vocals and timeless contributions to soul music have left an indelible mark on the genre. In addition to celebrating his iconic legacy, we’ll bring you the classic Philly Sound hits you know and love.
The Philly Sound, also known as TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia), is cherished for its luxurious string arrangements, bold brass, and infectious rhythms that bridge the gap between soulful groove and sophisticated funk. TSOP became the defining soundtrack of the late 1960s,70s, & 80s.
This year’s show will once again deliver performances that embody the essence of The Philly Soul Sound. Join us as we celebrate this beloved musical tradition with a special tribute and an unforgettable evening of music and community.
Community Music Center of Houston (CMCH) is an 501(C)3 arts organization dedicated to the preservation of Black music traditions that the community is rarely exposed to or are in danger of being lost.
